This is a captivating thriller, fast-moving with an intriguing, intelligent and contemporary plot. I don't usually read thrillers but came across this one recently and once I started reading it I was hooked! It has an international flair and even some glamour! I'm looking forward to reading this author's next novel.
I bought this on a whim for my kindle, and was so glad I did! It was an easy breezy read, the writing was good and clever and not at all lame as some of the kindle books by unknowns can be.I thought the characters were well-drawn, The main character Dax was likable and someone you wanted to root for. I am certainly going to read this author again, definately a thumb's up!
Daxton Longhorn has simple ambitions . . . he just wants to lead a carefree life as a dance instructor. But when he gets involved with a beautiful stranger, he is soon accused of the murder of the woman's husband. And his simple life gets very complicated very quickly!
The book proceeds at a breakneck speed and the ending of each chapter makes it hard to put down.
I was really impressed by this intricately constructed thriller. Knowing that this was a debut novel, I expected more rough edges, but this is a very polished book. I am not easily surprised by books, but this one got me more than once. There were several layers of plot here with subplots being introduced subtly and resolved expertly.
My biggest complaint was that I wasn't sure I was going to like Daxton at first. No matter how many times I hear that you "don't have to like a character, you just have to care what happens to them," speaking for myself, I really want to like the main character. For this book, it didn't really happen in the first chapter or two (though I was amused by Daxton), but eventually I really did grow to both care about him and like him. Now, I find myself looking forward to the sequel.
Nkorni Tankwa's new novel "The Barrister's Gavel" is sure to please the mystery fans out there. Lots of twists and turns and an ending that you never would have expected.
The main character Dax Longhorn is a man who dances to his own tune. Defying his Father, a judge, he dropped out of law school and traveled through Europe for several years. In the meantime, his beloved Mother, died and left him an inheritance that enabled Dax to follow his dream of opening a dance studio.
Life was good until beautiful Gillian walked into his life and things start to move swiftly. Dax is sued for assault by her husband, nearly killed, framed for murder and that that is just the beginning. As the story unfolds a stolen priceless art becomes the center point of the story, thus leading to family secrets that has long been buried. A stunning revelation that shocks Dax about his parents relationship.
I really enjoy discovering new authors and reviewing good stories from Indie authors and this was no exception. Mr. Tankwa has created characters that I would like to continue reading about in more novels. I was lucky enough to received a complimentary copy ( with no expectation of a good review) but the cost is inexpensive and worth every penny. Thank you Mr. Tankwa for an excellent read.
